Matthew Elliott is co-founder and Chief Commercial Officer of Nivo, the Manchester-based fintech building AI agents for lenders and brokers. Having led Nivo's spin-out from Barclays, where the technology originated, he has spent more than five years focused on making the loan application process simpler.

Nivo AI, its purpose-built agentic assistant for specialist lending, was opened to the wider broker and lender market in March 2026 after an early adopter phase. Matthew's argument is that the real operational drag in lending isn't finding the deal but everything that happens around packaging it, and that Nivo's platform, which already sees the real work of lending in natural language every day, is a natural fit for generative AI.

Matthew writes a fortnightly AI Matters column for The Intermediary aimed at helping brokers and lenders make sense of AI, and has hosted a series of sold-out broker roundtable dinners across the UK. His advice to firms is pragmatic: pick one narrow admin workflow, keep humans in the loop and measure it against the manual baseline before expanding.
